Summary

When TEKLYNX’ License Service cannot start, it causes problems with BACKTRACK. This is because when License Service is down, users cannot log into BACKTRACK and be authenticated. As a result, they cannot use the program.

Situation and Symptoms

  • When attempting to launch the TEKLYNX License Service, users see an error message reading, Windows could not start the Teklynx License Services service on Local Computer. Error 193:Oxc1
  • When users attempt to launch the BACKTRACK program, it generates an error message reading, Failed to get license information. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it…

Explanation

Services use an executable that is specified by a path inside its properties. If the path to the executable is in the Program Files or Program Files (x86) directories, then it may run into an issue with a file named program that also resides alongside this path, and it will try to use that file as the executable.

Solution

Find the path to where the service’s executable resides. Search through each directory along that path and look for a file named program. Once you locate it, rename, delete or move this file. Then, attempt to restart the service.
