Summary
This article explains the BACTRACK error message, “Failed to get license information. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it…” We also detail the underlying problem and how to resolve the error.

Explanation
The most basic explanation for the “Failed to get license information…” message is that the workstation cannot connect to TEKLYNX’s server.
While there are several possible reasons for this inability to connect to the license server, the two most frequent reasons are:
- The license server is down
- The port (default is #41000) that the license server uses to connect to the workstation, is blocked
- The workstation is not connected to the internet
Solution
To check if the license server is down, attempt to run BACKTRACK on the server. If you are able to do this, then the server is not the problem in this case.

If you are able to run BACKTRACK on the server from the workstation in question, then it is connected to the network. In that case, the most likely culprit is that port #41000 is blocked by the firewall. You will need to either open this port or configure BACKTRACK so that it connects via a different port.
