Setting Up CODESOFT CFI for Local Label Printing with BreadCrumbs

Summary

Command File Interpreter (CFI) is a utility for printing labels automatically based on a command file sent from another application. It is an add-on to CODESOFT Enterprise and Pro. Sigo’s BreadCrumbs is able to take advantage of this feature. This article explains how to set up CODESOFT CFI for printing labels on a client PC running BreadCrumbs.

Preparation

You will need:

  • BreadCrumbs PC installed and connected to a database
  • BreadCrumbs Integrator installed
  • CODEOFT Enterprise installed with an activated license for CFI
  • CODESOFT label design files prepared, tested and saved
  • Printers add (via Windows and/or CODESOFT) and tested
  • List of WhenPrinted fields in label designs for mapping to BreadCrumbs fields

Instructions

  1. Create folders on the local PC for both BreadCrumbs drop files and CODESOFT label designs.
    Suggested file paths:
    • Drop files: C:\Sigo\Breadcrumbs\File_Drop
    • Label design files: C:\Sigo\BreadCrumbs\Label_Designs
  2. Make both folders accessible to BreadCrumbs
  1. Move CODESOFT label designs to the the label folder C:\Sigo\BreadCrumbs\Label_Designs in the example, above.
  2. Fine-tune the labels to the connected printer by running CODESOFT and printing each label, adjusting as needed.
  3. Configure BreadCrumbs Client (not yet released as of 5-17-22)
    a. Add drop folder locations into BreadCrumbs – example: C:\Sigo\Breadcrumbs\File_Drop
    b. Identify the label design folder – example: C:\Sigo\BreadCrumbs\Label_Designs
    c. Indentify the printers using Windows printer queue names in BreadCrumbs settings
    NOTE: CODESOFT with CFI will allow up to three active printers at one time.
  4. Configure CODESOFT CFI
    a. Identify the drop file folder – example: C:\Sigo\Breadcrumbs\File_Drop
    b. Identify the label design folder – example: C:\Sigo\BreadCrumbs\Label_Designs
    c. Select printers
    d. Pres START
  5. Test the system by printing a label from BreadCrumbs
  6. Set CODESOFT CFI to Autostart on the PC
    a. Add CODESOFT shortcut exe to the Start folder in Windows
    b. Restart the PC
    c. Test by printing a label from BreadCrumbs.
