Summary
This article explains the BACKTRACK error message “[BACKTRACK App Name] Non-negative number required. Parameter name: totalWidth” and details how to fix the underlying problem that caused it to appear.
Explanation
In this incident, the number auto-generated for User ID exceeded the length of the field. The next User ID was 100 but the User ID field length was set to 2. Due to the way the computer stores numbers, the value 100 caused the number appears to be a negative number.
Solution
Increasing the field length to the BACKTRACK minimum (8) resolved this error. The reason the length was less than the minimum was that the BACKTRACK application had just been migrated from BT6 (which allowed the value of 2) to BT2012 (which has a minimum of 8).
