Transfer (Backup And Restore) SENTINEL Configuration Files – SENTINEL Instructions

Summary

This Instruction Article explains how to locate configuration and setting files for SENTINEL.  This can be helpful for archiving, backups, and transfers.

Instructions

Backup SENTINEL Files

  1. Browse to SENTINEL folder in Windows (make sure to enable ‘view hidden folders: Control Panel -> Folder Options -> Show hidden files and folders -> check ‘Hidden files, folders, and drives’)
    • Windows 2008/2012/7/10: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Teklynx\Sentinel\
    • Windows 2003/XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Teklynx\Sentinel
  2. Copy all ‘Configuration settings’ (.ini extension) and ‘XML documents’ (.xml extension) files in the root SENTINEL directory.  Configurations and XML files in SENTINEL maintain the printer alias names among other important settings.  Examples:
    • CB.ini
    • MA.ini
    • Mapper.ini(Configuration and Settings for the Map Files)
    • sentinel.xml(Configuration and Settings for each Sentinel print watch)
    • TKXCS.xml(SENTINEL Printer Settings)
    • TKXInput.xml(“Input” settings for the Sentinel print watches including drop file)
    • TKXOutput.xml(“Output” settings for the Sentinel print watches)
    • TkxReport.xml  (“Report” settings for the Sentinel print wathces)
    • users.xml(User name and password information)
  3. Copy all SENTINEL Maps in the ‘Maps’ subdirectory (…Teklynx\Sentinel\Maps).  These file names should all end in the .map extension.
  4. Optional – e-mail all copied files (from above) to EBI and we will keep them for you in our electronic customer files.

Backup CODESOFT

  1. Browse to CODESOFT [version #] folder in Windows that holds configuration files (make sure to enable ‘view hidden folders: Control Panel -> Folder Options -> Show hidden files and folders -> check ‘Hidden files, folders, and drives’)
    • Windows 2008/2012/7/10: C:\ProgramData\Teklynx\CODESOFT [version #]\
    • Windows 2003/XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Teklynx\CODESOFT [version #]
  2. Copy all ‘Configuration settings’ (.ini extension) and ‘XML documents’ (.xml extension) files in the root CODESOFT ‘V’ directory.  These files store CODESOFT configuration, actual printer information, and location.  Examples:
    • CS.ini(CODESOFT configuration settings, license location, default locations for labels, printers, etc.)
    • User.ini(User specific settings such as document locations, image file locations, ODBC, Paths, etc.)
  3. Browse to the folder that contains all your data including label templates (.lbl extension) and images (.bmp, .gif, .jpg, etc.).  The default folder for this data is called CODESOFT [version #] folder and can be found:
    • Windows 2008/2012/7/10: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Teklynx\CODESOFT [version #]
    • Windows 2003/XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Teklynx\CODEOSFT [version #]
  4. Copy all your data including label templates (.lbl extension) and images (.bmp, .gif, .jpg, etc.).  If you used the default folder (shown above), there are many files stored here that are created during the install of CODESOFT as samples.  You do not need to copy these.  Just copy the files that you use, if any, in this directory and any other directories (including sub directories) you have used to store them.
  5. For supported clients, e-mail all copied files (from above) to EBI and we will keep them for you in our electronic customer files.

Shut Down SENTINEL

Turn off Label Print Manager service (this is VERY important…the service automatically stores current configurations on shutdown and will overwrite the existing files).  MUST MOVE THE FILES AFTER SHUTTING DOWN LABEL PRINT MANAGER.

Note: In TEKLYNX CENTRAL 4.5 and SENTINEL 2014, the only 2 files that are affected by the shutdown are Tkxsocket.xml and Users.xml. You may not have the Tkxsocket.xml file in your installation. It holds the configuration for the Sentinel (Watcher) that utilizes TCP/IP port. Based on your configuration, you many not need to shutdown the LABLE PRINT MANAGER when copying the files.

Transfer Files

  • Move SENTINEL Files to new system
  • Move CODESOFT Files to new system

Start New SENTINEL

On new server, turn the Label Print Manager service back on and restart the SENTINEL application.
