Summary
System security software often blocks key components of BACKTRACK. This causes software malfunctions. Software crashes and error messages are common signs of this interference. However, IT departments can whitelist the key files, the folders that contain them, or the PC that hosts the folders and files. This typically resolves the issue.
Situation and Symptoms
- System running security software such as Carbon Black, Symantec Endpoint Protection
- Error message indicating that a key file is missing or blocked.
Explanation
We found that both Symantec Endpoint Protection and Carbon Black blocked C:\Program Files (x86)\Teklynx\BACKTRACK\tkxcnxbt.exe which causedBACKTRACK to fail.
Solution
Open your system security software’s whitelist/blacklist controls and whitelist tkxcnxbt.exe, the containing folder, or the workstation it is stored on in the system security software.
