Summary

When BACKTRACK attempts to launch CODESOFT, the launch fails and the user gets a message reading “Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {3624B9C0-9E5D-11D3-A896-00C04F32E22} failed due to the following error: 80080005 Server execution failed (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80080005 (CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE)).

This article explains what happens and the procedure to resolve the underlying issue.

Explanation

Simply put, CODESOFT is unable to find a critical .exe file during launch.

In this particular case, we found that system security software such as Carbon Black or Symantec Endpoint Protection, is blocking the computer’s access to the Lppa.exe file located in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Teklynx\CODESOFT 2021.

Quick Fixes

The solution is straightforward.

  1. Open your security software’s whitelist/blacklist settings
  2. Add the Lppa.exe file, its folder or the entire PC to the whitelist to prevent it from blocking CODESOFT’s access to the file.
