“UMSS Server is unreachable. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it…” – LABEL ARCHIVE Error Message

Summary

This Error Message Article explains the LABEL ARCHIVE or TEKLYNX CENTRAL error message “UMSS Server is unreachable. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it [IP address]” and details how to fix the underlying problem that caused it to appear.

Explanation

CODESOFT cannot find UMSS server.  There are two possible locations where this information is stored:

  1. C:\ProgramData\Teklynx\CODESOFT 2014\CS.ini – See article KBA-01814-Y5P6X1
  2. C:\ProgramData\Tki\TkxSrv\TkxSvrUmss.config

The error may indicate that the IP address is incorrect. They may happen when doing a manual or silent install. In that case, a failure to update one of these two causes the error messsage.

We have seen a case where the IP address was 127.0.0.1. This will likely fail.  This address represents a ‘loopback’.  It allows the computer to communicate with itself via network protocol.  In this situation, unless it is a test installation, it is most likely, a miss-configuration of the software.

Solution

Check the IP address for accuracy. If incorrect, redirect to the correct location.

Locate a line:     <client url=”tcp://localhost:8989″>
Change it to :     <client url=”tcp://<server name>:8989″>
