This article explains the cause of the BACKTRACK problem where the BACKTRACK application freezes, the window fades to gray, and the error message “Not Responding” appears.
Sometimes clicking on the a BACKTRACK screen causes the software to fade and display the message “Not Responding” at the top of the screen. It seems to happen at random times.
This is often due to BACKTRACK executing a long and/or resource consuming task. Typically waiting (can be a few hours) is what is required. It is not a good idea to interrupt this process. Depending on what BACKTRACK is doing, forcing the program to terminate may cause errors in database that may result in database becoming unusable.
If you must terminate the program, use Ctrl-Alt-Del in Windows to force a close.
